Credit card surcharges
Every time you purchase oil on a credit card, the oil supplier gets charged a percentage transaction fee by the credit card company, usually around
1.5%. In comparison, the fee for debit cards is a very small flat rate.
As the price of oil has (at times) increased quite dramatically, this percentage fee is costing the suppliers more to absorb should you choose to pay by credit card e.g.
1.5% of £500 is £7.50. Many suppliers therefore feel it is only fair to pass some or all of this burden to people who choose to pay by credit card.
The best way to make sure you can get the best deal is to try to pay by cash, cheque or debit card
if you can. If you have to pay by credit card, please take on board that there may be a surcharge.

If a supplier featured on the site is not listed above, it may simply be because it is not immediately obvious to us if they charge extra for credit cards.
As always, this list is subject to change. As the price of oil changes, suppliers may be able to absorb more or less of the credit card surcharge.
Credit card quotes
There are some listings that do not include a quote for credit cards. This may
be because we are unable to find somewhere publically available where we can
continually verify whether or not that supplier charges extra for credit cards.
For example, Bangor Fuels have told us that they do not
have a credit card surcharge. However we are unable to find somewhere publically
available where we can continually verify that this continues to be the case.
It is for this reason that no quote for credit cards is listed beside some
suppliers and we will keep the situation under review.
Note also that where a credit card surcharge is listed by a supplier as being as
percentage (e.g. 2%) rounding has been used.
